TITLE: Addition and Subtraction: By Checkbook
AUTHOR: Tim Olson, Meadow Valley Middle School;
Panaca, Nevada
GRADE LEVEL: 7,8
PURPOSE: To develop an understanding of the need or adding
and subtraction skills and too begin an understanding of
check books.
MATERIALS:
A. Newspaper add section
B. Paper checkbook
C. Pencil, Paper
ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:
Give each student his or her own Check Book .
Give each student a newspaper.
Direct the students to purchase a home ,car food etc.
With an amount in the book to start and fixed amounts added
once a week for the year.
Once a week you can add other expenses
Balance amounts monthly or grading
Example: Bobby Starts with $2200 this month:
house payment 675
car payment 325
food 423
gasoline 95
entertainment 125
left ----
557 You can add other expense
such as insurance here
Do this once a week for the year to see who has the most
possessions or savings etc.
