TITLE: WHAT ARE THEY FEELING ?
AUTHOR: Dina Merchant, Klawock Elementary School;
Klawock, Alaska
GRADE LEVEL: Appropriate for grades K-3
OVERVIEW: This is a pre-introduction to the SDMPS readiness
program that will help students visually identify what
various feelings look like. I designed this activity to
show students that by observing a given look on a picture of
a face they can identify the feeling and react appropriately
to it.
OBJECTIVE(s): Students will be able to:
1. List at least 15 feelings that people have.
2. Demonstrate through role-play what the feelings look
like.
3. Describe what the feelings feel like.
4. Identify various pictures depicting the feelings
discussed.
RESOURCES:
Teacher Materials = large chart paper and pens
Student Materials = magazines, scissors, glue, large chart
paper.
ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:
1. Spend a week listing feelings - giving students a
chance to really think of all the various feelings.
2. Pantomime the list of feelings during the next week.
3. Role-play the feelings during the next week.
4. Chart, with pictures, what the feelings look like the
following week.
TYING IT ALL TOGETHER: The children are now prepared to
start working on the SDMPS elementary program.
