TITLE: Jeopardy Review
AUTHOR: Shirley Elliott, Montana
GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 3-6; science, astronomy
OVERVIEW: This is an educational game (similar to Jeopardy)
to review concepts learned during the TEACH unit. It can be
adapted to any material and any curriculum.
PURPOSE: The game is a motivational tool to enhance
enjoyment of reviewing concepts.
OBJECTIVES: The students will:
1. Experience cooperative learning.
2. Formulate questions from material in TEACH unit.
3. Review concepts.
4. Keep score.
RESOURCES/MATERIALS: Chalkboard, chalk, sticky notes
ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:
Divide students into five cooperative groups.
Ask students to develop five questions pertaining to the
following categories: planets, Earth, sun, constellations,
potpourri ranging in difficulty from easy to hard. Write
questions on the chalkboard in Jeopardy-like format. Cover
each question with a sticky note labelled with the value of
the question (10-50) sees example.
Children in teams take turns choosing category and value.
Teacher pulls off sticky-note and reads question aloud. (or
student can read it to his group) If the answer is correct,
the value is added to team points. If is incorrect, it
passes on to the next team.
Behind two or three sticky notes, put a star which
indicates a bonus question (like the daily double in
Jeopardy). The group can decide how much to wager on the
question. Give no penalty for missed questions, pass them
on to the next team. Teams keep score.
