TITLE: Space Shuttle

GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 4-6, science
PURPOSE: To develop an understanding of the space shuttle
and its function in our space program.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Students will be able to define the word space
shuttle.
2. Students will be able to label and define the parts of
the space shuttle. (orbiter, two solid rocket
boosters, and the external tank on the outside)
3. Students will be able to write a description of what
the shuttle can do and give an example of a project
the shuttle has done in space to date.
4. Students will learn acronyms for space transport
system (STS), solid rocket booster (SRB), shuttle
carrier aircraft (SCA), and National Aeronautics Space
Administration (NASA)
RESOURCES/MATERIALS:
1. Hand out a blank space shuttle - use "SHUTTLE CRAFT
EDUCATION COLORING BOOK".
2. Space shuttle information sheet from teachers resource
book - one for each student.
3. Space shuttle operators manual for lists of acronyms -
one per student.
4. Encyclopedias
5. Spacebooks from library on space shuttle.
