ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:
1.  Labels for each theme place about the room
    Each student is handed 2 pictures.
    Students place pictures under correct theme
    Students explain reason for choice
 This is a quick check for knowledge

DAY 2/ Current Event
  Each student is given a copy of a current event article.
    Read this article orally
    This is more successful for special education students
  Quick review of the 5 geographic themes related to the newspaper
    Location
      Datelines (relative)
      Where was the story filed?

    Place
      Urban or rural
      Setting described
      Where did it take place? (river, lake, beach, etc.)

    Region
      Region Place - Coastline/south Truckee River

    Movement
      Ideas exchanged?
      Goods and services
      Transportation
      Communication

    Human/Environment Interaction
      Human impact
      Normal routine
      resources used

  List themes on board. Under each them, list the correct information.
  Location of identity
  The article (relative)
    Question - to find the exact location - where would we look?
        (map/atlas)
    Have several students locate the exact location of the article in an
        atlas.

TYING IT ALL TOGETHER:
This lesson plan can be adjusted to studies regarding the way of life of
people long ago and/or various ethnic group projects. The students may
use the library to research the project.
