Paul Brissette

The project "Designing A 21st Century Art Program" goal is to design a facility and curriculum that prepares students for 21st century fine arts and design fields. (1994)

Elaine C. Capobianco

"Patchwork of Dreams" is an innovative program that uses quilts as a vehicle by which students experience an interdisciplinary approach to hands-on learning, gaining understanding of the true values of freedom, and sharpen critical thinking skills. Students will keep journals and a video record of their research and activities. (1992)

Robert L. Cuddi

The project "Opening Doors: Linking an Elementary School in USSR and the USA" involved developing video presentations 'A Day in our School' for both schools, traveling to the USSR to instruct 4th grade students in the geography, culture, and daily lives in a small New England town. A letter writing project will also be featured. (1990)

Bruce Robert Dean

The "Explore and Discover: A Museum-School Model" project transforms school classrooms, courtyards, and playgrounds through interactive exhibits that explore math, science, and art. High School students and teachers serve as a design team. Four curriculum strands include: soapy science, art in motion, ecology and environment, and nature's geometry. (1992)

Lloyd O. Long

The "Project ASTRA: Applied Space Technology and Research Adventure" addresses teacher education (teachers will attend a one-week space camp) and the development of student materials and activities. Community and parental involvement is also featured. (1991)

W. Dean Eastman

The "Local History Research and Outreach" project will introduce the application of higher level social studies skills through historical research of Beverly and the surrounding communities. Use of primary research documents and artifacts, interdisciplinary approaches, and critical thinking skills will be the main focus of the curriculum as students investigate their community. The program will include workshops for students and staff, a summer archeological site, setting up a social studies research and development laboratory with the necessary equipment and creating a format and process for students and their family to videotape their family's oral history/genealogy. Marilyn Johnston Martin

The project "A Window on the Past: A View of Women and the Spirit of Work in the 19th Century Lowell, Massachusetts" presents a design for multicultural education within a contemporary high school setting and introduces the history of the female textile worker through slides and narrative in English, Khmer, Lao, and Vietnamese. (1987)

Susan Mitchell

The "Elementary Classroom Teachers: Taking a Leadership Role in Developing Science Curriculum and Inservice Programs" will focus on coordinating a project which develops a cadre of teachers to prepare and process science workshops for fellow teachers, to revise existing curriculum, to consult with other school systems, and to become science mentor teachers. These leaders will demonstrate how to lead a "hands-on" science experience to enrich science programs in elementary schools. (1989)

Carol Ann Pelletier

"Building Bridges: A Staff Development Project" is designed to provide support to cooperating teachers during the practicum experience and developing a teacher induction/mentor program. (1990)

Donald W. Pottle

"The Science Project Hotline" program consists of a science project resource book, videotapes, computer diskettes, teacher workshops, and a telecommunication service which offer, explain, and help implement a diverse set of over 1500 variably challenging life-science projects and activities. (1988)

Patrick C. Smith

"A Multicultural Approach: Music of Black Composers Impacting on the School Orchestra Program" will provide a half-year sabbatical to research and arrange orchestral works by African-American composers. These works will be performed in a concert by the school orchestra and a list of other appropriate compositions would be developed. (1991)

Jay Sugarman

The "Teacher Assessment Project" is exploring the feasibility of alternative kinds of teacher assessment methods. The fellowship will allow the fellow to participate in this Stanford University Project funded by the Carnegie Corporation. (1988)
