Who is eligible for a McAuliffe Fellowship Award and How do I apply?

Any full-time teacher with at least eight years experience in an elementary or secondary school may apply for the fellowship. The responsibility for the selection of the Fellows is delegated to the states. Each state has a contact person and a seven-member selection panel, most often administered by the state's Department of Education. Applications for the next school year are usually solicited early in the Fall, and the selections are announced the following Spring.

Each state is allocated a sum of money, based on the average salary for public school teachers in that state. Since salaries vary from state to state, the individual awards may also vary, and depending on the total appropriation, states with larger populations may receive funds for more than one award. The total national appropriation for the Program is nearly $2 million annually.
