The "Wonder Windows" project will introduce young, at-
risk children to science through an integrated
curriculum with "hands-on" science experiences and
children's literature. The project will be developed
through the involvement of parents and faculty with
science literacy education. Science kits will be
designed which will promote concept development.
The design and development of a `Children's Playful
Garden' on the school site is also featured. (1991)

The "BEH: Programming for Success" project will provide
three project teachers with the opportunity to travel
to visit other BEH classroom settings and to attend
State and national conventions to present their model
program. Special equipment will be purchased for
classroom use and an observation booth and time-out
room will be constructed. (1989)

and technology. A satellite dish and telescopes will be
purchased to achieve these goals. Teacher training and

Presenter 1995 Christa Corrigan McAuliffe Institute
The "Food Science" project studies the chemistry, biology,
biochemistry, microbiology, and nutrition behind the production,
processing and packaging of today's food supply. Student activities
involve hands on experimentation, collaborative teamwork, developing
research projects and exploring the scientific principles at work in
the home kitchen. This program is presently being aired on the North
Carolina Information Highway as an interactive telecommunications
class to three sites. Technology used includes: fiber optic cable,
ATM switches, television cameras, TV monitors, directional microphones,
and audio-visual computer presentations. (1992)
