NEGP Monthly for July 2000
"The National Education Goals Panel would like your feedback on how to make
the NEGP MONTHLY more useful to you. The Panel appreciates your recent
feedback on its weekly digest of news stories about education reform. The
NEGP MONTHLY compliments the WEEKLY, focusing on policies thought by state
officials to account for their improvements and high performance on
indicators of progress toward the National Education Goals. Please take
five minutes to complete the following user survey. Your answers will help
the Panel to determine possible changes in this publication.
"The NEGP MONTHLY is an on-line monthly publication that highlights the
states making the most progress or performing at the highest levels on
indicators of progress towards the eight National Education Goals. It
describes policy initiatives and people to contact in states across the
country that show evidence of improved education and progress toward the
National Education Goals."

Higher education is essential for young people who want to earn a decent
living and enjoy productive lives and contribute to the adult literacy (Goal
6) of the nation. Read about efforts underway in South
Carolina, New York and California, to increase the percentage of high school
students who immediately enroll in college.
