Welcome to OFCN's first Academy Special Project: TeleElection96! This project is an interactive lesson in the democratic process for students across the country. Students from different schools will vote for their preferred presidential ticket and report the results to OFCN. The results will be tallied and reported back to you at the end of the voting period. This is a chance for students under voting age to be heard on behalf of their schools and states, and to compare their own preferences with the actual vote.
Before the students vote, they may wish to avail themselves of the information on some of the many web sites we've linked to. You'll find pages devoted to the parties and candidates, government information, media coverage from a wide variety of perspectives, and some fun interactive sites. By following those links, you'll find material for many possible projects in the time before the election, including argumentative essays, mock debates, media literacy exercises, factual analysis of claims made by various candidates, polling techniques... We think the links assembled here compare with any list you'll find out there on the web.
If your class has found a cool site, or thought of an interesting
election-related project, you can share it with your fellow students!
A listserv has been established to allow you to exchange messages
