A description of your school: Urbana High School is a public high school with grades 9-12 and a student body of 1250. The school day begins at 8:10 am and finishes at 3:10 pm. Students may take classes the entire day or begin one hour later or end one hour earlier (not both). We will compete on an all weather track. We have a college prep curriculum with a variety of weighted courses, some AP courses, a general education program, and a vocational program. In the vocational program a nursing assistant course is taught, a house building course, and auto mechanics course for students wanting to apprentice in a trade. A house is built by the students and then sold so that another lot and materials to build with may be bought. The usual class size ranges from 25 in academic classes to 40 in physical education and music.
A description of your community: We are a rural city school. That may sound weird, but we are in a rural area but are a city of 35,000 population. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is located in our community. The most popular attraction in our community is the Univeristy and the opportunities for education and entertainment it presents. We have cultural events in a wide variety and Big 10 athletic events.
