Description of your school: Nortbrook Middle School has approximately 800
enrolled students and is a sixth-eighth grade public school campus located
in the Spring Branch Independent School District. Our school operation hours
are from 8:25-3:40 daily. We are on a block schedule, with class sizes between
25-30. Our school teaches all the state required courses and electives with
many added specialty electives in technology. Those electives include: a
distance learning health class taught in conjunction with the University of
Texas Health Science Center, video technology classes, web page classes,
electronic music classes, advanced computer skills classes, and a basic
graphic and business design class for beginning entrepreneurs.
We will complete all of our running events on a grass track that is
located on our school property.
Description of your community: Spring Branch is a community within the city
of Houston. We are located west of downtown Houston about 10 miles on
Interstate 10. Our community and school district are very active in what is
happening within Houston. We participate in FFA, many art, technology, and
curriculum contests within Spring Branch and Houston.
Some of the more exciting things in and around Houston are the World
Champion 'Houston Comets' of the WNBA, the NBA 'Rockets', the 'Astros'
baseball team and our new football team, the Houston 'Texans'.
Description of sports done in your school: The students at Northbrook compete in volleyball, basketball, track and football on the seventh and eighth grade levels in district UIL competition. Our sixth graders compete in volleyball and basketball in an intramural program during school hours.
