Description of your school:
We are a public school in the city of Orlando. We are a center school
for orthopaedically and health impaired students. We have approximately
700 general education students and 100 special ed students. We have one
adapted PE teacher, 2 general PE teachers and 4 PE paraprofessionals.
Most of our PE classes have about 30 students. Our students are in school
6 1/2 hours a day for 180 days a year. We do not have a track. All our
activities are done on a very uneven grass field. We do not even have room
to mark a complete 400 meter course. The students ran 2 laps of 200 meters,
Description of your community:
We are located near downtown Orlando, FL--the home of Walt Disney World
and Universal Studios.
Description of sports done in your school:
We offer no school sponsored sports for general ed students although many
of them participate in baseball, softball and basketball in community
sponsored programs. Our county does offer track, bowling and swimming
for physically impaired students and has a large Special Olympics program.
