Description of your school:
Lake Silver Elementary School is a public elementary school
about 18 miles from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
We have approximately 600 general education students in grades
kindergarten through five. We also have about 100 exceptional
education students in PreK through grade 5. Our students attend
school from 8:45 AM till 3:00 PM. Most of our classes have 20-25
students. We have two general physical education teachers who
are assisted by two paraprofessionals. We also have one full time
adapted physical education teacher who works with one paraprofessional.
Our general education students have PE 4 times a week and music
on the fifth day. Most of our exceptional education students have
PE 5 days a week. Those that go to music are mainstreamed into a
general education class.
Our students will compete in the teleolympics on a grass field. Our long events are run around the perimeter of the field which measures 400 meters.
Description of your community:
We are considered a city school since we are located near the
downtown area of Orlando. Orlando has approximately 1,750,000
people in the city and another million living outside the city
limits in Orange County. Our most popular attractions are the
Walt Disney World theme parks, Universal Studios and Sea World.
We are located near the center of the state so, besides our
local attractions, we are convenient to beaches on both the
Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
Description of sports done in your school:
We do not offer any type of sports program for our general education
students. They are taught the basic skills for softball, tennis,
football, basketball and track in PE. Our physically impaired
students have the opportunity to participate in track meets with
other physically impaired students.
