Approximate Number of Students Participating: 400
Ages and Grades of students competing: ages: 1st through 5th
Description of your school:
Pioneer is one of 12 public elementary's in the Auburn School District.
Recently Pioneer won Washington State's Fitness award competing in the
500 and above population category. We have Physical Education classes
twice a week for 45 minutes a session. All activities are done, when
weather permits, on grass, however we struggle with rain in the Northwest
and don't always get the practice we'd like to compete!
Description of your community:
With a population base of about 30,000, Auburn is located about 15 to
20 minutes from either Seattle or Tacoma. Auburn. Although very near
a larger population base, Auburn retains a nice "small town" feel with
local shops and business and has a very rich old tradition of growth.
Description of sports done in your school:
Pioneer Elementary's 5th grade competes in volleyball, track and
basketball afterschool. In class a wide variety of activities are
practiced including trational sports such as basketball, volleyball,
football etc. as well as individual activities such as juggling, stilts,
jumprope
We like to use the olympics as a trainer for our own district wide
olympics in the summer.
