Description of your school:
We are a public middle school of about 800 students. We will be competing during our intramural program after school on a grass field.

Description of your community:
(From our webpage) The Fayetteville-Manlius School District is located in a southeastern suburb of the City of Syracuse, in central New York. The community is home to approximately 20,000 residents, who enjoy both the beauty and recreational resources of our beautiful lakes and mountains, as well as the district's excellent academic reputation. Our proximity to the City of Syracuse provides ample opportunities for cultural events, sports and other activities.

We embrace an education philosophy that supports the values of a democratic society, prepares students for higher education and meaningful life work, and encourages children to become productive citizens and contributors to society. Within its instructional program, the district emphasizes skills for personal health, respect of self and of others, group decision-making, and a love of learning. All students are encouraged to develop to their fullest educational potential, and to understand their heritage, their uniqueness, and the society and government in which they live.

The F-M School District has a strong and vibrant partnership with the community. Residents continue to actively support the tradition of academic excellence established in 1951, when several small districts united. Today the district is comprised of approximately 4,700 students enrolled in six buildings: three elementary schools (grades K-4); two middle schools (grades 5-8) and the Fayetteville-Manlius High School (grades 9-12). We are also extremely proud of the tenure of our school superintendents. In the past 50 years, the district has had only four superintendents. Our current superintendent has held that position since 1977. This remarkable consistency of leadership has allowed the district to achieve the nationally recognized success that is our hallmark in the areas of academics, the arts and athletics. For example, in the 2003-2004 school year, 80% of our graduates went to a 4-year college and 12% went on to a 2-year college. In 2003, the F-M High School Science Olympiad team placed first in the nation out of a field of 54 schools. F-M High School was named a 2000 GRAMMY Signature School by the GRAMMY Foundation. F-M was named one of the top 100 school districts in 2001 through 2004.

We believe in proudly sharing and celebrating the differences in all students, while striving to ensure that all students and staff feel like an integral part of our school family. As a district, we're constantly striving to find ways to improve and increase student results. All members of our school community are seeking the same goal and are working together to meet and exceed New York State Learning Standards, while encouraging our students to become responsible and productive citizens.

Description of sports done in your school:
Although students are able to participate in a variety of recreation and community sports teams, we offer interscholastic competition in the follow sports: cross-country running, football, field hockey, soccer, basketball, girls volleyball, boys wrestling, baseball, softball, track and field, and lacrosse.
