Description of your community:
Postojna, German Adelsberg , Italian Postumia, city (5000 inhabitants), western Slovenia, on the Pivka River northeast of Trieste (Italy). Its prime importance is as a tourist centre for its Postojna Cave, an internationally famous cave system considered to be Europe's best example of karst phenomena. References to the town date from the 13th century, and it became a borough in 1432. It became a city in 1909. Postojna is a regional educational and cultural centre and has light industry.

Postojna is a small but very beautiful city in the Littoral region. It is much smaller than our capital town Ljubljana. In the city there live about 5000 people.
It became very famous because of a major tourist attraction, the 20 kilometre long cave system called Postojna Cave. That is one
of the biggest and most beautiful caves in the whole world. It was first described in 17th century by Janez Vajkard Valvasor. He was a Slovenian nobleman, scholar, and polymath, member of the Royal Society. The new area of the cave was discovered by a local man Luka C(ec( in 1818.
There is a river flowing past the city, too. It²s called Pivka.
9 kilometers form Postojna there is Predjama Castle set within a mouth of a cave.
There are two primary schools (Anton Globoc(nik and Miroslav Vilhar) and two secondary schools in our town.
There are football club, basketball club, karate club and even more of them as well. The most successful was the basketball club that plays in the first Slovenian basketball league. Last few years a rally race has been organised here.
There are two quite successful orchestra in the town and a choir, too.
Recently, a lot of shops were built in Postojna and at the moment they are about to build a new hotel. There is also a pretty important fact
ory, Liv, here.
Postojna is not a violent city.
We really like Postojna, because it²s small, but it²s very famous, too.

SLOVENIA
Slovenia is a small country with only 2 million inhabitants. Its map has a shape of a hen.
It lies in the heart of Europe, between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea.
It has a very beautiful countryside. We still have many forests. They cover more than half of the country. I believe that Slovenia is the greeniest piece of Europe.
It has seven geographical regions: Gorenjska (Upper Carniola), Dolenjska (Lower Carniola), Notranjska (Inner Carniola), Primorska (Littoral Region), ªtajerska (Styria), Koroºka (Carinthia) and Prekmurje (Over-Mura Region).
The landscape is amazingly beautiful. We have high mountains in the North of Slovenia. The highest mountain is Triglav ¶ which means "three-heads" - and it is 2864m high.
The region where we live, Notranjska (Inner Carniola), is famous for
underground rivers and caves. The most famous is the Postojna cave.
In Slovenia we have also many beautiful rivers and lakes, the warm Adriatic Sea , the Panonian plain in the North-East and green hills in the South of Sovenia, along the Sava and Krka rivers. Sava is the longest river in Slovenia.
Slovenia has a continental climate with cold winters and hot summers. Slovenia is also known for its good wines and delicious food. People are very nice.
Our neighbouring countries are: Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Italy.
Slovenia is a democratic parliamentary republic since 25 June 1991 when it declared its independence from Yugoslavia.
It became the member of the European Union in 2004.
Dr. Danilo Turk is the president and Janez Janºa is the prime minister.
Ljubljana is the capital and the largest city.
Our national flag has horizontal white, blue and red stripes.
Our national anthem is Zdravljica, a poem written by our greatest poet France Preºeren.
I like my cou
ntry very much.
