A description of your school: Public Elementary in the suburbs of Kansas
City. Total population of the school is 285 students which includes 3year
old preschool through 6th grade and also special population students.
We begin school at 8:20 go home at 3:30. We are doing this as a joint
effort between our Computer Club and the after school at-risk program
called Navigators. We will be competing on a grass field.
A description of your community: Olathe is a city of approximately
80,000 with 3 high schools, 5 junior highs (grades 7-9), and 26
elementary schools. We also have a head start program and vocational
schools. Mahaffie Farmstead is located in Olathe and was a stage
coach stop for the Santa Fe Trail and other trails. We have 2 fairly big
city wide events that occur during the year; Bullwhacker Days where
people visit the farmstead and see how life was back in the good old
days and the the first weekend in September is our annual Old Settlers
Day with a carnival and crafts from local people and a parade that the
area students participate in.
A description of the sports done at your school: We do not have any
sports that are played against other schools but we do have an
intermurals program for the 5th and 6th graders who make up teams for
soccer, basksetball, mumball, Capture the Flag, Volleyball to name a few
that are played during the noon recess time.
