Number of participating Students: Possible of 300 (will know the day of Participation)
Grades/Ages: Sixth through eighth graders are in our school
Description:
We live in northeast Missouri and are the largest town - 17,000 persons. The
area has been a farming community, but not very productive. Farming is less
and less viable. Six hundred students attend our school. Some spend as
much as an hour on the bus each morning and evening. Class size is around
25 per class (depending on the subject.) We have a new multipurpose
track - eight lanes - just completed in time for May Field Day last year.
We are the home of Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State
University.) We have received coverage in Money magazine for the value of
our school. We are also the home of the first school for Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Andrew Taylor Still was the founder of Osteopathic Medicine. Our state
park five miles west of town is called Thousand Hills - so you know what our
terrain is. We were covered by glaciers during the ice age, but the many
streams have caused the level ground to erode into hills. Our students
participate in extracurricular sports of track and football at our school.
Our school is out May 28, so we're in the Spring Fever mood. We are anxious
to learn about other schools with whom we'll be competing!
Good luck to all! We're with you - worldwide. Mrs. Settlage
Computer Teacher. Coaches Carlisle and Riley are working with the students to
determine their scores.
