Description of your school (Please include such things as type of school (public, private or parochial), hours you attend class, size of classes, subjects taught, grades included, size of school, conditions under which you will compete(track or grass field)):
Pleasant Hill High School, a public institution, closed in 1980 from declining enrollment. It reopened in 1997 for 6th grade only, for 200 students as Pleasant Hill Middle School. This fall of 1998 it added another 240 6th graders to the now 7th graders. They have repainted the old school but modern technology like classrooms with computers hasn't yet happened, except for a lab of antiquated machines w/o Internet capabilities. Just give us time and money, like everything else, and we'll move ahead full speed. Our library just opened 3 weeks ago so we're learning the reward & importance of patience.
The track is a 440 - 1/4 mile, not resurfaced during it's 20 years of neglect, but we do have the space. The city maintains the well manicured field area for park & recreation soccer and baseball leagues.
I teach math, science and P.E. in two three period blocks. My students from the morning go next door for a three period block of history, english and language arts when those students come to me in exchange for their math, science and P.E. Each period is 48 minutes with 4 minutes in between and lunch for 35 minutes.

Description of Community: Our town of Pleasant Hill is around 30,000 people. History books tell of 19 ranches in the area with slow growth until 1945, after WWII. The area grew but the city didn't incorporate until 1961, to protect it from the towns & plan for its future. Just 30 minutes from San Francisco and Berkeley, our town is east of the Oakland hills. Urban sprawl continues to close in on all sides of this bedroom community where the town council is beginning to work on downtown redevelopment for the 1st time since the '40s. Come for a visit. I'll show you Pleasant Hill, a beautiful town with large colorful trees and very few sidewalks, growing faster than we want to admit, on the edge of a very populated San Francisco Bay Area.
