Does a mitral valve with calcifacation need to be treated the same as a prolapsed mitral valve when having a dental procedure?

Answer:

There is no data to support the routine use of antibiotics for a calcified mitral valve in the absence of a valve leak. The risk of an infection developing following a dental procedure is almost non-existant and does not justify prophylactic antibiotics.
