I am seeking information concerning Circumscribic Schleradoma but don't know where to look. Would also like to get info on if and where research is being done. Thanks for any help.
---------------
Circumscribed scleroderma is also called morphea. One expert is Dr.
Metzger at the University of Pittsburgh. Others exist. It is a condition
that can occur in almost any area of the body and is generally not
associated with systemic scleroderma, but seems to be more common in women
than men. Except for the linear and extensive forms, it tends to involute
(resolve) over a 3-5 year period (according to Andrews' Diseases of the
Skin, 8th Ed.). The cause is not really clear, but it is likely related
to autoimmune processes (the body attacking itself...). There are reports
of localized scleroderma being related to Borrelia burgdorferi (the
infectious organism also responsible for Lyme disease), but the reports
seem more common out of Europe than the United States. I have never
successfully treated someone with morphea with antibiotics.
Hope this helps.
