I've just had a minor surgery, resulting in a 1 inch long stitch on my back between the shoulder blades. Is there any ointment I can apply or food I can eat to alleviate the scarring ? I'm a 35 years old male with fair skin.
Thanks, please reply direct as I need to take action immediately.

Easy answer really...Everyone scars (it's normal). The question is whether there is something to do to minimize the appearance and eventual stretching of the scar? Some people's scars stretch no matter what you do. I believe it's genetic, though except for those with severe forms of elastic tissure dysfunction (e.g. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome), it's one of those things that doesn't quite count as a disease/syndrome. Some people tend to form keloids, others don't. The specific answer to good wound care is that moist wounds heal better, so keep it lubricated with antibiotic ointment. We cover most of our small surgical wounds with and "occlusive" dressing such as Tegaderm or Duoderm. This seems to speed healing and give a nice looking scar. As for foods, etc....eat well. Make sure your diet has adequate vitamin C (important in collagen synthesis). Good luck.
