I have a pretty severe case of athlete's foot and would like to know home remedies are recommended for treatment or what is the best off the shelf medication. I'm to embaressed to go to our foot doctor.

So called "athlete's foot" is USUALLY caused by a fungus that lives in the dead layer of skin. This fungus (dermatophytes) can be treated with several different classes of antifungal drugs. The best over-the-counter cream is clotrimazole (Lotrimin). Many other prescription drugs exist, and some may provide a better prolonged cure, but you'll have to decide. If it's not improving, see a derm to rule-out psoriasis, eczema, or other problems that you might not know about. Hope this helps. Eliot
