Over the last month, I have noticed a change in the consistency of my stool. After defecating I find mucus while wiping. In the past, the fecal residue was consistent with that of the waste. Lately, the waste may be solid in consistency but there is mucus on the toilet paper when I wipe. The only change I've noticed, is the need to defecate many times a day. However, half of the time I sit down I'm unable to go.
I just read about Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Could I have this?
REPLY:
While your symptoms could be compatible with IBS that diagnosis
is made after other possibilities have been excluded. Your age and
other factors will determine whether studies are appropriate to
exclude colitis, cancer, or other conditions which can also cause
changes in bowel habits.
You should see your doctor.
