I have had cold like symptoms on and off (at least 5 times) since Jan. Could this possible be sinus problems? Colds usually don't come back that often. My symptoms usually last for a few days, then go away and suddenly reappear. Does this need medical advice? I went to the doctor in Jan and he gave me some sinus pills which help some but I am still suffering with the runny nose and sneezing
Answer ---------------------------------
The symptoms described (runny nose and sneezing) as well as their pattern and frequency suggest allergy as a possible cause. If you live in a climate with 4 seasons, allergies this time of year are most often related to dust or mold sensitivities. Animal dander, or other household or workplace environmental factors are also likely possibilities.
Usually the offending allergy-causing agents are air-borne and therefore inhaled. A definitive investigation as to the possibility of allergy would require a thorough analysis of possible environmental exposures both at home and at work, combined with a physical examination and skin or blood testing. Prior to that, a trial of an anti-histamine might be helpful. Anti-histamines interfere with some of the allergic processes thereby helping to minimize the symptoms. Many anti-histamines have side effects of drowsiness, however there are many new anti-histamines available which are either low- or non-sedating.
