I would like any information on Eagle's disease. My 29 year old sister was diagnosed with this disease recently. She was told that surgery is the only method to correct this. She has severe inflamation of the styloid bone.

She had meningitis a month ago and was diagnosed with rapid strep infections and mononucleosis one week ago, which has progressed ? to Eagle's disease.

I m trying to reseach for surgeons who have done this procedure and also more information on the disease itself.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have previously posted information regarding Eagle's syndrome. Please refer to "review previous consultations" on the main ENT web page at OFCN. I am not aware of any direct relationship between Eagle's syndrome and meningitis. Furthermore the only possible relationship I can envision between strep throat or mononucleosis and Eagle's syndrome would be the possibility that lymph node swelling in the area surrounding the tip of the styloid bone has caused pain or tenderness. In the strictest sense, Eagle's syndrome refers to a chronic pain syndrome of the throat that is localized to the area surrounding the styloid bone and is felt to be related to impingement or stretching of nerve fibers in the area resulting in a form of neuralgia.
