I have lost my hearing rdually since around 10 year old. Currently I am in the late 40 and am wearing hearing aid. I have been told that I have nerve deafness. Although hearing aid can help but I am not very satisfied with it. I wonder if cochlear implant can give better result. I am in CA and have Kaiser as the insurance carrier. I believe that Kaiser do not cover cochlear implant. So what is the best way to find out whether cochlear implant can help better at the lowest possible cost. Thank you for your help.

Cochlear implants are hearing devices surgically implanted into the inner ear. They are designed for individuals who have profound cochlear deafness and whose hearing loss is too severe for conventional hearing aid amplification. Based on your comments, I suspect that you are not a candidate for a cochlear implant. I might suggest you consider a trial of the latest generation of digital hearing aids. An example would be the Resound hearing aid. These hearing aids are quite expensive but offer some distinct advantages over other conventional hearing aids. i
