I was operated yesteray 2/13/97 of endoscopic sinus surgery and I wish
to know what must I do in the postoperative period, treatment, cares and
activities.
Thank you

This would be best answered by your surgeon. I advise my patients to avoid nose blowing and if they should feel the need to sneeze, sneeze through the mouth. Also my patients are advised to avoid heavy lifting (nothing greater than 10 lbs), straining, bending at the waist, or any strenuous activity for at least 1 week. Occasionally there is nasal packing in place which must be removed in 24-48 hrs. The nose is usually stuffy and I allow my patients to use nasal saline frequently and for 3-5 days after surgery I allow the use of oxymetazoline (Afrin) spray as a comfort measure to help with the nasal stuffiness. Antibiotics are occasionally also prescribed depending on the nasal or sinus problem. Close post-operative follow-up by the surgeon is generally recommended.
