Hi
For over 6 months now my left ear keeps "popping" in and out. I went to see a doctor and was told that this was caused by a pressure imbalance. I was told if I squeezed my nose and blew this would get rid of the problem. It hasn't. I was then told to try a decongestant, Rinexin. This temporarily got rid of the problem but now its back again. It feels like there is fluid or some kind of blockage because if I tilt my head to the right it clears but reverts back as soon as I hold it upright. Can you help ?
Thanks

The symptoms you have described suggest eustachian tube dysfunction. If you have not already done so, I would suggest that you consult with an otolaryngologist for further evaluation. An examination of not only the ears, but also of the nasopharynx is warranted considering the duration of symptoms. If the diagnosis is indeed eustachian tube dysfunction, there are more aggressive therapies available including topical nasal steroid sprays or even insertion of typanostomy tubes in resistant cases.
