Dear Doctor,

My name is Margo. I live in the Chicago area. I had sinus surgery on April 30th.
I had a deviated septum, huge turbinates, I guess the sinuses scraped and while I was at it, I has nasal reconstruction. It is now May 9th. I thought that I would be feeling great by now. I am getting better than I was a week ago, but not how I thought I would. My nose feels very swollen, I have ALOT of dry crust and I am starting to beable to smell and it doesn't smell too good. My doctor said that i can use ocean nasal spray whenever I want. Am I feeling normal for 9 days post-surgery?

You are describing relatively normal post-operative symptoms following sinus or nasal surgery. Proper humdification, frequent use of nasal saline, and perhaps even the use of pulsatile nasal irrigation using a Grossan nasal irrigator tip attached to a Water-pik using dilute salt water/baking soda solutions may be helpful. Of course, these issues should be discussed with your surgeon.
