I suffer from food alergies and every so often I suffer with severe headaches and congestion. My doctor informed me that I have a deviated septum and that surgery was recommended. This would not control the headaches, which would be controlled with medication, but I am wondering if the surgery would make a major difference with my congestion? I find it difficult to breathe while my mouth is closed and if surgery would help, I would do it.

The most common and appropriate indication for septoplasty to correct a deviation of the nasal septum is chronic nasal airway obstruction that cannot be alleviated with medication. Uncomplicated surgery to correct a deviation of the septum is highly effective for the treatment of this symptom.
