I read the dialogue printed about squamous cell carcnioma and this applies exactly to my mother who has been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the lymph nodes with unknown primary. My question is: If one cannot find the primary cancer, what is the cure rate after surgery and radiation treatment? Is it likely that the cancer has already spread to the rest of her body because it is already in multiple lymph nodes? Is the radiation actually curative or just better than doing nothing? What can she expect from the radiation treatment as far as side effects and general well being? Are there any numbers on chances of long term survival? Where can I find more information? I am a nurse so I can sift through medical jargon fairly readily and would like to find out how to access a medical data-base. Thank you very much. Sincerely

There is a comprehensive review of the topic of cervical metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma from an unknown primary on the internet - the URL is: http://www.bcm.tmc.edu/oto/grand/9993.html
