Dear Doctor, My five year old son has a very foul smelling ear. He has no drainage, pain, or swelling of the ear. He has only complained once of it feeling stopped up. Could an accumulation of ear wax cause this foul odor. What other disorders could cause this. Thank you so much for your time in answering my question!

Offensive odor from the ear would more likely be caused by infection. However, ear wax (cerumen) occasionally has a less than pleasant smell. The best advise would be to have his ears examined by the pediatrician or family doctor.
