To whom it may concern:
On May 5, I had sinus surgery. The operating surgeon cleaned out my sinus cavity and straightened my septum. Two previous surgeries have been performed: the first in May 96- Nasalseptoplasty and polyp removal from inside left nasal, and the second in October 96- (separate surgeon than from first surgery) Removed several polyps from inside paranasal sinuses.
Question: After this third surgery, starting on the eighth day, (after returning to work) there is much pain and swelling in left side of nose, cheek, and below the tear-duct. Should I be concerned? Post op visit was on the twelfth of May. Splints were removed from both sides and some stitched as well. No pain had occured up to and during that time. Doctor doesn't expect to see me for a month. Should I make an earlier appointment or wait?

I would discuss this problem with your surgeon. Only he/she would be able to determine whether the symptom warrants an earlier appointment or whether there might be simple measures that could be instituted to resolve the problem prior to the next appointment.
