I went to the dr. with a sore throat. After checking me, she said I have two small sores akin to canker sores in my throat. Just curious if you've seen this before. If so, how long is a reasonable amount of time for it to last? Also, is there anything I can do to relieve the discomfort? Thanks.

Apthous ulcerations or "canker sores" can occur as a result of viral infections causing pharyngitis. They can be extremely painful and made worse by certain foods. Acute aphthous ulcerations related to acute upper respiratory conditions resolve spontaneously and require only symptomatic measures such as topical analgesic preparations which can be found over the counter. Chronic or recurring aphthous ulcerations can be a manifestation of systemic illnesses and warrant evaluation by a specialist.
