I am 33 years old male. I have recently moved to the United states (about
7 months). From the time I have been here, I am having congestion in my
nose. There was a "heavy" affect of running nose, burning or eyes etc,
arund the months of Feb amd March. I consulted a doctor and was given the
medicines for the allergy (due to pollen) which was helpful. After couple
of weeks, I started getting running nose and blockage of nose now and
then. Now, it has come to the extent that EVERY single day , in the
morning, just after I get up, there is a strong itchy sensation, followed
by a few sneezes and running nose. I will have to blow my nose a few
times. The as the day goes by, towards afternoon, it feels better.
Normally towards the evening, it feels much better. I have observed one
thing that if I am lying down (or sleeping) ie. my position of the head
is as when lying down, there seems no problem.
What I would like to know is :
1. Is is allergy to pollen, still ? This is the month of July and am I SO
sensitive to it even now ?
2. Is it sinus ? My family has a problem of sinusitus. But even if it is,
will I get this sinus problem all of a sudden. I NEVER had this problem
until this january.
Now a days, the anti allergy tablets do not seem so effective. But if I
lie down, I have total relief.
I have also been told by my family that I snore a lot while sleeping. Are
all these inidcations for severe sinus ?
I would greatly appreciate any light on the above matters and some
directions as to how I should proceed with my problem.
Thanks in advance.

I would not be able to diagnose the cause of your symptoms based on the information you have provided. However, symptoms such as you have described could be caused by a variety of different conditons including allergy, other environmental sensitivities, sinusitis, manifestations of systemic conditions, etc. There are a wide variety of nasal and sinus medications both topical and systemic that might be successful in improving or eliminating the symptoms you experience. However, a thorough evaluation would be necessary and you would have to accept that there is a period where trials of different therapies would be required before identifying the most successful therapy. I would recommend an evaluation by an ears, nose, and throat specialist (otolaryngologist).
