I am not sure my posting went thru. My grand-daughter is 3 months old. She had trouble with her DNA in translocation 1-9. She also has CMV.

The eye doctor says one retina is detached and the other is partailly attached. What options does she have? Are there any exercises that might help her?

I posted on the eye dr board but am not sure the message got thru.

Thanks for your help.

CMV (Cytomegalovirus) is a severe, devastating viral infection. Even with the best of treatment, it can be a permanently blinding disorder. This child needs to be evaluated immediately by an ophthalmologist, experienced in treating this infection.

There is some evidence that treating CMV retinitis with the medications, Foscarnet and/or Gancilovir may arrest the progress of the disease. There is also evidence that surgery, involving vitrectomy and injection of silicone oil to repair the retinal detachments may be of benefit.

CMV is not limited to infecting the eye. The child's pediatrician must watch for other manifestations of the disease.
