An eye injury caused a permanently dilated pupil. A cataract removal and lens implant required because of the injury causes light rings around the lens which are visible because the lens is too small to cover the entire enlarged pupil. Glare under bright light conditions also impairs sight in the injured eye. The question is: Would it be possible to use a contact lens with the edges colored or darkened to reduce the effective size of the pupil to reduce glare in bright light and light rings at night?
Thanks!

Yes. Opaque contact lenses have been used successfully for this type of problem. There are currently a wide variety of "opaque" contact lenses commercially available. These are the lenses that are advertised to change eye color. While it is said that they are opaque, it is not completely true.
There are, however, truly opaque "prosthetic" contact lenses with a small, clear, central pupillary space that could cut down on glare and distortion of vision in a situation where the pupil has been damaged or injured.
