Years ago when my vision started to get worse and I finally had to admit I needed glasses, I noticed that one eye ( left ) would wander and look 'left'.

As the years go by, I noticed that if I take my glasses off for an extended period of time, my eye wanders. With my glasses on, there is no such occurance. When my lens seem weak, my eye tries to wander but in such cases my doctor notices a vision change and prescribes stronger lens when solves the problem.

Is this common?

An eye that drifts outward can be caused by many conditions. It is not uncommon that eyeglasses can correct for some eye deviations.

Nevertheless, some "drifting" eyes can be signs of other more significant problems, and should be evaluated completely by an ophthalmologist experienced with eye muscle problems.
