I am 45 years old and wear glasses of about -6.75 in the right and -6.50 in the left with about -1 and -.5 of astigmatism. I wore hard contacts for about 30 years until about 7 years ago when I stopped and tried to switch to soft then gas permeables. Along the way I developed GPC so lenses are out. Unfortunately I am also unhappy with glasses--just not really comfortable. I have been told I am visually sensitive and have seen may eye practitioners with less than satisfactory results. I know I'm not normal but do you have any suggestions.? Thanx

The bad news is . . . the options to correct refractive errors are limited.

The good news is . . .there are more options available now than ever before.

At present, the options to correct focusing errors within the eye include: glasses, contact lenses, and surgery. If you are dissatisfied with glasses and contact lenses, you must decide if this dissatisfaction is significant enough to make you willing to submit to surgery. Surgery has many, many more inherent risks than wearing glasses or contact lenses. If it works well, however, it can free you from the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. There are many more surgical options available now than even a year ago.

Before you decide, you need to discuss all of these potential risks and benefits with an eye surgeon familiar with refractive surgery.
