I was interested to find your WEB pages while searching the Web for information relating to Iris Color. (I am the only one in my family with green eyes). I can't find any information anywhere about how the color of your eyes are determined, so although not avtually a problem, I would be grateful for any info about:-

1) What percentage of the population have green eyes?

2) What determines your iris color? None of my parents or grand parents have green eyes!

Answered by Richard E. Gans, M. D. (reg@ofcn.org)

Iris color is determined by multiple factors. It is not a simple genetic trait. I am unaware of a specific reference that would give percentages of individuals with specific eye colors.
