My mother in West Virginia has inflamation around her eyes. She has tested + for AS, and her brother has serious AS symptoms. She is going to the Mayo Clinic later this month because the six doctors she has gone to have not made a diagnosis.
Could the swelling (and back pain) be AS?
Thanks!

I assume that the "AS" to which you refer is ankylosing spondylitis. This is a condition which causes specific skeletal and joint abnormalities, associated with inflammation within the eye (uveitis).
Ankylosing Spondylitis typically causes iridocyclitis. Inflammation within the more forward structures inside the eye. It is not associated with inflammation and swelling "around" or "outside" of the eye. It typically causes joint abnormalities in the sacro-iliac joints and in the cervical spine. It is associated with a specific genetic marker HLA B27.
