Dear Sirs:

My doctor says I may be suffering from the above noted disorder. I can't
find any mention of this on the Web anywhere, what exactly is it?
Basically I have been getting a headache, associated with a
heaviness/tightness in and around my left eye. Light does not bother me
(unlike the few migraines that I have suffered through the years.)

Thank you.

Migraine is a term that refers to a constellation of symptoms, associated with periodic, severe headaches. There are a number of different sub-classifications of migraine. The names of these subsets change with time, but they typically describe the varying symptoms associated with the headaches. Migraines often have visual symptoms.

People sometimes use the terms "ophthalmic migraine" or "ocular migraine" to refer to the type of migraines that have visual symptoms. The reference relates to visual symptoms and not somatic symptoms; that is, to things that the individual "sees" rather than things that the individual "feels".

To my knowledge, it is not common for migraine to produce the symptoms that you describe. If the symptoms persist or recur, I would advise that you seek the attention of a physician who is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of migraines. In general, neurologists diagnose and treat migraines.
