What is spinal meningitis? What are the symptoms? What is the prognosis?

--

Spinal meningitis is an infection involving the spinal cord and meninges, the layer surrounding the brain. It is a very serious illness. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck and altered mental status. Prognosis depends upon the patient's age, other illnesses, and the germ causing the infection.
