11 weeks ago I had a hemorrhoidectomy. I still have a mucus discharge, some bleeding and pain, pain, and pain. Is this normal?

REPLY:

This is certainly not normal and you should contact your surgeon.

Your question and the delay in responding to it brings up two points to remember for those who use this service. First, medical problems of an urgent nature should be addressed with a call to a physician or a visit to an Emergency Room; the Internet is no substitute for a physical examination or direct contact with a medical provider. Second, some of the clinics at ofcn are understaffed and physicians in other areas are sometimes asked to help out with backlogged questions; unfortunately, before the back-up docs can see your questions a good deal of time may have passed. Please be patient with us while we work through a revision of this process in order to get answers to you in a more expedient manner. Thanks for your understanding.
