Hello, I was wondering if you could help me research a rare form of Hepatitis, the C strain. Someone I know recently got it through a blood transfusion and he wants a lot of knowledge about the disease.

The newsgroup sci.med.hepatitis is a forum for discussion on this and related types of liver disease.
On the WWW (available to many via lynx) you will find a homepage for the American Liver Foundation and other pages on liver disease prepared by the physicians at Columbia University; initiate a search using words such as "liver" and "columbia" on the usual search engines such as Webcrawler (http://webcrawler.com) or Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com) or UUNET Open Text and you will be pointed to these links.
The area of Hepatitis C is a rapidly changing field of liver disease. The condition has a good chance of becoming chronic but it can be treated. Your friend should put himself under the care of a physician familiar with this entity and experienced in its treatment. If you live near a Medical School this would be a good place to start. In smaller communities seek out a referral to a qualified Gastroenterologist after discussing the matter with your family doctor or internist.
