I am a 31 year old male with no history of serious health problems.
About 6 months ago, I started to notice a strange feeling in my back, on the left side of my spine, level with the bottom of my shoulder blade. It started as a numbness that would come and go every day or so. It has since progressed to a numb ache that shows up every hour or two, especially if I am standing (washing dishes, etc.).
In the last couple of months, I have noticed a cold, tingling in my left hand and foot. This is not very uncomfortable, but it is quite disturbing.
This may or may not be important, but I thought I should mention it. There have been 4 occasions since December, when my bladder control has been less than would be expected for a man my age. Just a few sprinkles, but quite embarrassing.
For the record, I am a programmer (no heavy lifting). I run 20 miles a week on pavement.
Should I see a doctor?

Your symptoms don't sound dangerous, but I do recommend that you see a family doctor or general internist. Since your symptoms are undifferentiated, you need a generalist not a specialist. I bet your doc will say something like: "Hum. Don't know what it is, but doesn't sound dangerous. Come back and see me if it gets worse or new symptoms." That may sound like a cop out, but it is just what you need right now. If it goes away, great. If it gets worse then you go back to the SAME doc and a pattern might be more apparent. Good Luck.
