Hi,

My Aunt (Age 50), about 3/4 years back all of a sudden started feeling pain in her hands and legs. This continued for days and then months and did not seem to respond to any medication. Since then her physique has worsened and she can hardly use her hands/legs nor can she move now. She has a constant shooting pain in her legs and hands and sometimes in the head. The doctors have referred her case as due to Rheumatoid Artheritis. She is not even able to eat and is mostly on a liquid diet which she vomits most of the times. Apparently there seems to be a general system failure. Is it due to the hormonal changes due to menopause? Is there a cure to Rheumatoid Artheritis? She has been a very active and lively woman all along and now she is hardly able able to move her fingers. What can be done?

It is possible that she has rheumatoid arthritis. I don't know whether her symptoms are related to menopause or hormone treatment. I recommend that you and she call your local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. They have support groups, reams of educational materials, and lists of specialists (rheumatologists) who treat arthritis.
