My friend is 6 weeks pregnant with triplets. Is it routine to stitch the cervix with known triplets?
What are the special concerns with triplets?
How rare are triplets?
What is the average gestation with triplets? Thanks

Answer:

It is not routine to stitch the cervix with multiple pregnancies. It is done if it is felt that is "incompetent", that is, that has a tendency to open prematurely, causing a premature baby. Triplets happen every 8,000 to 9,000 pregnancies.(if no fertility medication is involved.). They have a tendency to deliver before the due date, so prematurity is a concern as well as a higher change of developing preeclampsia.
